The Susquehanna Valley Progressives will host its next public forum entitled The Case for Medical Marijuana on Monday, October 27 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Front Street Station in Northumberland PA.
WKOK’s Mark Lawrence will interview several of our panelists plus a medical marijuana activist:
- Oct 27th at 9:00 AM – Senator Mike Folmer (R-48) is co-sponsor of SB 1182, the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act, which would allow Pennsylvania physicians to prescribe medicinal cannabis. He serves as Chairman of the Senate Education Committee and Vice Chair of the Labor and Industry Committee. Mike is a founding member of the Constitutional Organization of Liberty, a community-wide educational project designed to promote awareness of America’s founding principles.
- Oct 23 at 7:10 am – Lolly Bentch Myers is one of the founders of Campaign4Compassion, a grassroots medical cannabis advocacy group. She has a 6 year old daughter who lives with intractable epilepsy, which is why she got involved in this movement. However, along the way Lolly has met hundreds of other patients who need access to Cannabis as well, and she now considers it a privilege to advocate for them as well. Lolly lobbied hard for the SB1182, the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act, which passed the senate in September.
- Oct 23 at 8:30 am – Jessie Truitt, a veteran of the United States Army where she served from 1999 to 2008. During that time, she endured traumatic events, which led to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a condition that plagues many of our veterans. Jessie and our other veterans would benefit greatly from Medical Cannabis, but because it is still illegal, it is not an option.
The Oct 27 forum is intended to provide both personal and informed perspectives on the issue of medical marijuana and will welcome Sen. Mike Folmer (R-48), cosponsor of Senate Bill 1182, the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act; a mother turned activist who will share her story, her daughter’s condition and the politics behind the issue; a mother and registered nurse turned activist who can share both personal and medical perspectives; finally a retired emergency room physician who can offer some guidance on the medical science.
