Day of Action: Defend…Not Defund

January 7, 2017 by SV Progressives

Sen. Bernie Sanders is calling on us to join him in organizing local events around the country in a Day of Action.

So here’s the deal: Republicans want to take away health care from 23 million people and defund Planned Parenthood that provides 2.4 million Americans with reproductive health care and education. Are we going to stand back and just let them do this? Or are we going to fight back?

Susquehanna Valley Progressives is hosting a rally to show our community opposition to Republicans’ proposed cuts to healthcare and Planned Parenthood. The rally will be held outside the office of Rep. Lou Barletta (a proud Trump supporter). We are the resistance and that means we need to show up and be counted. Bring your signs, bring your voice, bring your friends.

We are not alone! A recent poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation finds that 75 percent of Americans say they either want lawmakers to leave Obamacare alone, or repeal it only when they can replace it with a new health care law.

Take action! Join the Susquehanna Valley Progressives on January 15 and tell Rep. Barletta to work with Democrats in Congress to maintain and improve the ACA to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable healthcare.

Democracy, Hijacked!

This past week the republican senate leaders hijacked efforts to pass sensible redistricting reform in Pennsylvania. Instead of moving bipartisan legislation forward that would have empowered the people of Pennsylvania in the redrawing of our legislative and congressional districts, a few powerful republican legislators took the opportunity to obliterate existing compromises, abandon any efforts to […]

Stop the cruel attacks on those in need

Conservatives are proposing work requirements for Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients — an unnecessary and cruel act that would actually result in the government spending more to administer these programs. Conservatives are attempting to fix a problem that doesn’t exist. To be fair, Republicans do not want to fix these programs, they […]
