Senator Bernie Sanders energized a room of 800 progressives today at the PA Progressive Summit. Although he did not announce his presidency, he did, through his passionate address, underscore why progressives want him to run.
The Senator took time to unveil the Koch Brothers true agenda; he noted that David Koch had run for Vice-President in 1980 on the Libertarian platform and that his then platform has not at all evolved. The platform included abolishing medicare and medicaid, eliminating social security, eliminating the minimum wage, closing the US Postal Service, eliminating all government welfare, and the repeal of all taxes.
The Koch Brothers will spend nearly $1 billion of their own money on political campaigns in the coming years. As Sen. Sanders pointed out, the Koch Brothers are worth over $85 billion so really $1B is a drop in the bucket for them. The money will promote their tea-party agenda, benefiting big industry and the wealthy.
The Koch Brother platform will not, according to Sen. Sanders, benefit the poor, the retired and the working class.
The Koch brothers have gone beyond elections, to promote their agenda Sen. Sanders explained; they are using their financial pull to influence university curricula, court decisions, and even health care in hospitals.
Their goal is to change what America is all about, explained Sen. Sanders. He also noted that the wealthy, those who can’t seem to obtain enough wealth, are beholden to the religion of greed.
